Valencia Floods and how you can help
Valencia and surrounding areas in Spain are currently facing severe challenges due to a DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos) storm, which has brought torrential rainfall, flooding, and strong winds. The adverse weather conditions have resulted in significant damage, including submerged streets, overturned vehicles, and widespread water damage to homes and businesses. Emergency responders are working tirelessly, and red alerts have been issued, with more rainfall expected in the coming days.
The severity of this storm has prompted local governments to mobilize military personnel and emergency resources. Additionally, public health measures are underway, including vaccinations against potential infections from stagnant floodwaters. These floods have disrupted daily life, with school closures and widespread roadblocks as authorities prioritize safety and prevent further tragedies like those already reported.
For those in Estepona wanting to support affected communities in the Valencia floods, there are several options:
- Spanish Red Cross, which provide immediate assistance, shelter, and resources to affected families. One of the most effective contributions is economic. The Red Cross has enabled a channel on its website for donations (available by clicking here). In addition, it has made the telephone number 900 1049 71 available to donors, where you can send a Bizum to 33512 and a donation SMS of six euros by sending the word AYUDA to 38092.
- Caritas has also promoted a specific campaign for the DANA emergency. In collaboration with the Valencia City Council, the following accounts are offered to deposit money: EMERGENCIA DANA VALENCIA Caixa Popular: ES19 3159 0078 5716 6338 6025 and Caixabank: ES02 2100 8734 6113 0064 8236.
- Help through RTVE has launched an aid campaign for citizen collaboration with the Red Cross, Cáritas Española and Messengers of Peace. Donations can be made by bank transfer or the Bizum system with detailed data on the RTVE website: https://www.rtve.es/noticias/ayuda-victimas-de-dana/.
In the last few hours, citizens from all over the Costa del Sol are wondering how they can do their bit and help families who have lost everything return to normality. There are many initiatives that have been promoted by associations or organizations such as the Red Cross or Cáritas. But the Town Councils of the Costa del Sol have also responded to the call of the citizens. Below, we leave you a list of the points enabled in each municipality to collect food and belongings to send to help the Valencia floods.
